It may come as a surprise, but I think my most asked question doesn’t involve how to get ready for a session, but whether or not the family dogs can get in on the action! I giggle a little each time and usually respond with something like, “This is Denver… I’d be shocked if you DIDN’T have dogs!” After getting our own dog for the first time this year, I understand the desire to have them in your portraits and I’m completely comfortable working with them, especially since they’re still in their own home. I leave the handling up to the family since you know them best and treat them like I do toddlers: bribes and good timing. We take whatever they give us, but I’ve never had a session where we gave it a try and it didn’t work out!
Seriously, look at these pups. The one they thought would spaz out was cool as a cucumber and the “good” one was a total ham. Can you tell which is which? We couldn’t have asked for more out of them! These group images paired together with newborn portraits are ones that they’ll cherish forever.
Congratulations to Maddoc’s mama and daddy! <3
(Dad played for USC so we used some pieces of his gear to put little man in for some size perspective.)
