While I’m getting back into the swing of shooting I’ve been keeping busy at home. (I have my first family shoot of the season this weekend! Wish me luck!) Okay, who am I kidding? I am more than busy with everything I would normally need to do, but I also have been doing things that are fun for me. The first thing was starting out with this monster:
I’m sure I’m not the only one with one of these in their house. It is a standard circa 1990s jewelry box that was a gift from my grandma a few years ago. She means well and technically it does match her house. If you’re reading this, I love you Grandma! :) The unfortunate part was that I actually get use out of it, but was having a hard time looking at it. I figured a little paint would do the trick. I found some leftover gray paint from our garage project and some white craft paint for the handles. This project took me only a few hours total and I’m SOOO happy I did it! Here’s the after product which I now LOVE! I may end up adding some fabric rosettes or something to the door panel, but for now it’s totally a keeper.
Another thing I love to do in my spare time is design paper products. I’m sure you know that about me by now! I couldn’t wait to get Max’s birth announcements rolling after I did his photos. I like to design these from scratch and have many different options. My absolute favorite is printing them on linen paper, which I did here with mine. They have an amazing texture and we can pair them with matching linen envelopes. It’s the little details that’ll get ‘em. :)
My birthday was just on Monday this week. I told Carl all I wanted was for him to take Carson to pick me out a cake. Whatever cake he wanted. For Mother’s Day last year he got me an anniversary card, my mom a birthday card and his great-grandma an Easter card. It killed me. I kept asking him what kind of cake I should get and he told me tractors, dirt, trucks, etc. I figured I was going to get a cake he’d love and that was fine with me. Instead Carl said he went straight for the “hearts” section because that’s what you give to mommies. He was beyond proud of this cake. And so was I.
Max was happy as ever about it.
